This in Brandy, Rowan’s mom. I started this blog for myself & for him, and anyone else who might be interested in hearing Rowans story. A lot of this is about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ADS), a neurological disorder that recent statistic measure that 1 in every 150 children are diagnosed with. But mostly this is a frame of reference in one place form me to see where we have come from and try to see where we are going. I have blogged other places about our life, but here I am going to attempt to start from the beginning and tell what I remember of his story. Please bare with me if I am going slow at telling the story, sometime it’s painfull to remember how blind I was to the problems we were having. When it gets too hard to write I have to take a break and come back to it after a week or two.
The story behind the blog title.
3 reasons:
1) For me, it seems that we always knew something was different with my son, and so did everyone else. But it was like the proverbial elephant in the room that no one talked about, and no one gave it a name, gave it a voice.
2) It also brings to mind the blind men and the elephant, each who described it in very different ways.
3) The last reason I chose this name is that for some reason, even before he was born I identified him as my cute little elephant, and having nothing to do with size, it still fits him today.
